STEP DRILL BIT

STEP DRILL BIT

A UPVC step drill bit is a specialized tool designed for drilling holes in various materials, with a particular emphasis on thin materials like UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride), sheet metal, and plastics.

Key Features and Design

  • Conical Shape: Unlike traditional twist drill bits, a step drill bit is cone-shaped with a series of graduated steps. Each step represents a different, specific hole diameter.

  • Multiple Hole Sizes in One Bit: This unique design allows a single bit to drill multiple hole sizes, eliminating the need to constantly switch bits. This saves time and increases efficiency.

  • Clean and Burr-Free Holes: The stepped design cuts cleanly through materials, reducing the risk of tearing, warping, or creating rough edges and burrs. This is especially beneficial when working with plastics and sheet metal, which are prone to damage.

  • Deburring Capability: As you drill to a larger step, the transition between steps can also deburr and chamfer the edges of the hole, providing a smooth finish in one operation.

  • Material and Coating: Step drill bits are commonly made from high-speed steel (HSS) and may have coatings like titanium nitride (TiN) or black oxide to improve durability, reduce friction, and extend tool life.
