ROUTING BIT
A UPVC routing bit is a specialized cutting tool used in a router or a copy routing machine to create precise slots, grooves, and holes in UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) and aluminum profiles. These bits are essential for the fabrication of UPVC windows, doors, and other building components.
Key Features and Design
Material: UPVC routing bits are typically made from High-Speed Steel (HSS), often with specific grades like M35 or M42 for enhanced durability and performance. They may also be made from solid carbide, which offers a longer service life and a cleaner cut, especially in more abrasive materials.
Shank: They often come with a stepped shank or a straight shank designed to fit into a copy routing machine.
Flutes: The number of flutes (cutting edges) can vary. Bits with fewer flutes are better for faster chip clearance, while those with more flutes provide a finer finish, which is important for the clean look of UPVC profiles.
Single or Double Flute: Both single and double-flute bits are common. Single-flute bits are often used for general cutting, while double-flute bits can provide a smoother cut.
Specialized Geometry: The geometry of these bits is optimized to prevent melting or chipping the plastic material. They are designed to cut cleanly and efficiently.
